On February 13th, in partnership with TECTERRA & Rogers Communications, Alberta IoT hosted the Geospatial Enabled IoT for Oil and Gas event at Hotel Arts in Calgary, AB.
The event kicked off with a brief presentation from Master of Ceremonies Brenda Beckedorf, Executive Director of Alberta IoT. Brenda gave us an overview of the current state of Calgary’s IoT ecosystem and talked about the Alberta IoT Association’s goals, priorities, opportunities, and success metrics.
Our Keynote speaker was Stan Tumoth, Damage Prevention Program Manager at TC Energy. Stan gave us an overview of TC Energy’s history and growth, highlighting that they operate and monitor nearly 1,000,000kms of pipeline. He provided some excellent insight into recent regulatory changes, and the impact of pipeline downtime due to unexpected maintenance. You can view Stan’s presentation slides here.
Richard Gorecki, Director of Portfolio Development at TECTERRA, shared some information about the innovation support center’s investments in product development and commercialization to decrease the time it takes for Canadian geospatial technology companies achieve commercial success. We also heard from Marc Godin, Director of Technology at PTAC’s Consortium of Digital Innovation and Transformation (CDIT). Marc spoke on behalf of the organization comprised of 8 major energy companies who are working together to identify and solve a number of common digital innovation challenges.
