Fall 2023 Program: October 4, 2023
Course Details
Week 1
Begin with essential business practices in Canada/Alberta, including Canadian business culture and customs, finding product-market fit, understanding customers, and networking strategies. We will also dive into effective market research, social media marketing, negotiation techniques, and designing emails for client communication.
Week 2
We will cover everything finance, including detailed instruction on how to register a business in Canada, an overview of tax laws in Canada and Alberta, bookkeeping/accounting requirements, and shareholder agreements.
Week 3
We will focus on the fine print, including understanding tax credits (SHRED), IP and patents from a legal perspective, immigration compliance, data tracking, and Canadian permanent residence/citizenship for long term retention.
Week 4
This week will wrap up with hiring in Canada, including human resources and labor laws in Canada, legal frameworks for employees (minimum wage, termination, harassment), health & employee benefit standards in Alberta, review of your options as a founder when it comes to deciding on independent contractors versus employees, and compensation items like equity versus cash compensation.
