Important Program Update

As of December 31st, 2025, Canada’s Start-Up Visa (SUV) Program is closed to new applications.

This closure follows federal program changes issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), including capped intake limits and firm submission deadlines for designated organizations and applicants.

About Alberta IoT and the SUV Program

Alberta IoT is proud to have been an official designated organization under the Government of Canada’s Start-Up Visa Program.

Through this designation, Alberta IoT supported innovative, technology-driven scale-up companies seeking to establish and grow their businesses in Alberta while contributing to Canada’s innovation economy.

Program Closure Details

Under federal policy updates:

  • December 31, 2025 was the final date to submit a commitment certificate.
  • December 19, 2025 marked the closure of new work permit applications under the SUV program.
  • Only applicants with a valid 2025 commitment certificate may continue through processing.
  • The Start-Up Visa Program is closed to all other applications.

Alberta IoT is no longer accepting or reviewing new SUV applications.

For Existing SUV Applicants

If you already hold:

  • A valid commitment certificate issued before December 31, 2025, and
  • A submitted permanent residence application

You may continue through IRCC’s processing stream with Alberta IoT.

If you are an existing Alberta IoT SUV applicant and have questions about your file, next steps, or ongoing participation, please contact Alberta IoT directly. Eligible applicants may continue their Start-Up Visa process through Alberta IoT in accordance with federal program requirements and timelines.
